Cris Cyborg vs. Sinead Kavanagh set for Bellator women’s featherweight title

Bellator president Scott Coker announced on The MMA hour with Ariel Helwani today that a Bellator featherweight title fight between champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino and Irish striker Sinead Kavanagh is official. The fight will take place on November 12th in Florida.

Kavanagh has called out the Brazilian legend multiple times since Justino moved to Bellator from the UFC and those words, along with a string of impressive displays, seem to have gotten Kavanagh her wish.

On a recent back-and-forth online, Cyborg jawed at teammates of Kavanagh to tell her to “please sign the contract,” before deleting the comment – the first suggestion that the Brazilian had Kavanagh in her sights next.

Having made her debut all the way back in 2005, Justino is one of the most decorated women to ever strap up a pair of gloves. Aside from Bellator gold, she has also been a champion in the UFC, Strikeforce and Invicta with victories over the likes of Holly Holm, Gina Carano and Marloes Coenen.

It was a whole 10 years after Cyborg debuted that former amateur boxing stand-out Kavanagh made her debut in the cage. In her eleven fights since, Kavanagh has won seven and lost four. That record is somewhat deceiving though as a cut and three very close decision losses were backed up by wins over the likes Olga Rubin and Katharina Lehner in her last two outings.

When the bout happens it will arguably be the biggest Irish MMA fight ever, not containing Conor McGregor.
