Cage Warriors Announce Four-Man Welterweight Title Tournament; Ian Garry Set to Take Part

On Tuesday, Cage Warriors announced that a new welterweight champion will be determined by a four-man tournament, which begins on Friday 19th March.

One of the hottest properties in Irish MMA, Ian Garry (5-0)—who fights out of Team KF in Dublin—will take on Rostem Akman (6-2), and Jack Grant (16-6) is set to face Madars Fleminas (8-2) in the two tournament semi-finals.

The first round of the tournament will take place in London’s York Hall on the main card of Cage Warriors 121. The winners of both bouts will advance to the final, where they will fight on the next Cage Warriors Trilogy series later this year.

Speaking about the tournament, Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan stated: “The welterweight division needs a new champion and there is no shortage of contenders.”

“MMA fans love nothing more than a grand prix, and I am so excited to see how this one plays out!”

Jack Grant will move up from the lightweight division to take on one of Latvia’s best MMA athletes, Madars Fleminas. Fleminas has three wins under the Cage Warriors banner, having scored an impressive win over Mick Stanton last time out at Cage Warriors 118.

Garry will take on Rostem Akman, who fights out of Sweden. Akman has UFC-level experience and will prove a solid test for the Irish prospect. The Swede has big power in his hands and possesses a solid all-round grappling game.

This event is part of the latest ‘THE TRILOGY’ series. Cage Warriors 120, 121 and 122 will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass from London’s York Hall on Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20th March.
