UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Sakai Results

UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Sakai went down Saturday September 5 at the UFC APEX. The card ended up with just seven fights after some last minute Covid related pull outs. Dutch heavyweight Alistair Overeem and Brazilian Augusto Sakai faced off in the main event.

The Dutch heavyweight prevailed in a back a forth main event with his Brazilian counterpart Sakai. Alistair Overeem looked to be in trouble in the early stages of the fight. Sakai was moving forward with flurries and landed a big elbow cutting his opponent. Overeem was not to be denied as he used his grappling to take Sakai to the mat and land some big ground and pound. Herb Dean called a halt to the fight at the start of fifth round. Alistair Overeem puts himself right into the heavyweight title mix.

In the co-main event Ovince St. Preux got the KO Victory over Alonzo Menifield. Showman Michel Pereira put in a solid performance in his submission victory over Zelim Imadaev. Brian “Boom” Kelleher pulled of a guillotine choke in under one minute over Ray Rodriguez. Viviane Araujo was victorious over Montana De La Rosa in what was a very entertaining strawweight encounter.
