Ronda Rousey vs Bethe Correia set for UFC 190 main event

Ronda Rousey

It was announced today at the UFC 189 World Tour Presser in Rio that Ronda Rousey (11-0) will defend her bantamweight title in the main event against Bethe Correia (9-0) at UFC 190 on August 1st in Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena.

Correia who is 3-0 in the UFC has already beaten two of Ronda’s teammates. She defeated Jessamyn Duke by unanimous decision in April last year, after the fight Correia held up four fingers to the camera and then put one down, gesturing that she had taken down one of “The Four Horsewomen”.

In August last year, Correia faced her second member of the Horsewomen, Shayna Baszler whom she defeated by 2nd round TKO. Even though Correia’s 3 UFC wins are against unranked opponents her attack of “The Four Horsewomen” worked and has earned her a title shot.

This will be Rousey’s 6th title defence in the UFC. Rousey finished her last fight in 14 seconds where she submitted Cat Zingano.
“I would definitely say this is a personal fight,” Rousey said. Ronda says that she understands why Bethe went after her teammates in order to get a title shot.

“I understand Bethe’s tactics and I understand why she went about things the way she did, but just because I understand it, doesn’t make it ok. The fact is in order to get a title shot as quickly as possible, she disrespected my friends, which I consider my family.”

It’s safe to assume if Ronda beats Correia in August we can fully expect that Ronda will walk-off like she did after the Miesha fight and forego shaking Bethe’s hand.

It was also announced that Miesha Tate will face Jessica Eye sometime in June, the winner will become the number 1 contender for a title shot.
