Jose Aldo injured; Out of UFC 176 bout with Chad Mendes

Another day, another injury in the UFC. This time, UFC 176 is the card affected as featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been forced to pull out of his latest bout against team alpha male’s Chad Mendes.

The news was first reported for UFC Tonight by Ariel Helwani and was later confirmed to be a relatively short term shoulder/spine injury by mmafighting.com.

Aldo (24-1) has won all six title defenses since bringing his belt over from the now defunct WEC – including one against Mendes already. As of now it’s not know whether the UFC will try to replace Aldo or find an entirely new main event. Mendes (16-1) has won all five fights since losing to the Brazilian in 2012.

Other fights confirmed for UFC 176, at the moment, are as follows:

Gegard Mousasi vs. Ronaldo Souza
Gray Maynard vs. Fabrício Camões
Bethe Correia vs. Shayna Baszler
Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky
James Vick vs. Walmir Lazaro
Lorenz Larkin vs. Derek Brunson
Bobby Green vs. Abel Trujillo
Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson
Beneil Dariush vs. Tony Martin
